Hand Drawn
Georgia’s hands were the first in my Hand Drawn series, an ongoing project based on pencil drawings of the things we make and do for one another, by hand, in the shops of Windsor and Eton. Fewer and fewer local businesses are based on goods or services made or carried out by hand right there on the premises. So I’m drawing the hands of the florist, the dentist, the deli owner, the waitress, the optometrist, the fishmonger and others, capturing a single gesture as each person performs a service that I’m paying for: that’s my scalp under Georgia’s scissors, the beef that Steve the butcher is slicing went into the stew pot at home, and the cat that Dr Tim is pilling is my own.
